There’s no-where else in the world quite like Kangaroo Island!

Only 30 minutes from Adelaide by air, and 45 minutes by ferry from Cape Jervis (which is 2 hours from Adelaide), Kangaroo Island is a must-visit for every Australian and international tourist.

Kangaroo Island is a wildlife sanctuary, where native animals roam free, and Australian flora is protected. People come from all over the world to see our native kangaroos, tammar wallabies, echidnas, brush-tailed possums, bottle-nosed dolphins, sea-lions and fur seals in their natural habitats. More than 260 bird species call Kangaroo Island home.

Geographically, Kangaroo Island is just west of the Fleurieu Peninsula and south of the Yorke Peninsula, and is the third largest island in Australia. Because of its size and the wide range of nature-based activities available, you really need to spend a week here to make the most of your visit.

Kingscote is the commercial centre and largest town on the island, with excellent shopping, accommodation and a variety of cafes and restaurants to dine at. First port of call for most visitors to the island, however, is Penneshaw, where the Sealink ferry docks. Ferry services usually operate three times a day. Rex also provides daily transfers to and from the island from Adelaide Airport.

At present, Kangaroo Island’s economy is largely agricultural; wine, honey, wool, meat and grain are some of the island’s main exports. When it comes to tourism, demand often outstrips supply. The natural state of the island and the abundance of Australian fauna makes Kangaroo Island a very attractive destination for international tourists. The island’s ‘remarkable rocks’ are iconic.
